SA: Govt to rid Adelaide of suppression city tag

The South Australian government plans to change the law to make it harder for judges
to grant suppression orders in court cases.

Attorney General MICHAEL ATKINSON says South Australia grants more suppression orders
than anywhere else in the country.

He says he wants to make sure such orders are used genuinely in the interests of justice
.. to protect the privacy of victims .. and to prevent the accused escaping through mis-trial.

He doesn't want them used to protect the rights of the accused .. ahead of the rights of victims.
