Games and Sport Jews, like all other people, played many kinds of games and engaged in sporting activities. Especially popular were card games, ball games, dominoes, chess, archery, athletics, and swimming. From time to time, however, the Jewish moralists voiced a number of objections to overindulgence in games and sport on the grounds that these are a waste of time that could be better spent on the study of the Torah.
